Steve Powell

Johnson County Commissioner Candidate

2024

Steve

My name is Steve Powell. I am running as a Republican Candidate for Johnson County Commissioner!

I would appreciate your vote in the Primary Election this year.

My goal is to improve the quality of life in our great county. I have been a resident of Johnson County for over 45 years. I know our many strengths and our few weaknesses. My goal is to build on those strengths and minimize or eliminate those weaknesses.

I am not a newcomer to county government, having served for decades as an associate member of the Indiana Association of County Commissioners and the Association of Indiana Counties. Locally, I have been a precinct committeeman, poll worker, member of the Zoning Board and delegate to the state convention.

Our county deserves stronger leadership. We can do better and I want to act and advocate on behalf of making it better.

Campaign Priorities

Public Safety

We have outstanding county, municipal and town and police, fire and emergency services personnel. As our county grows, there will be more and more demands and challenges. I want to make sure that public safety is funded to the greatest extent possible. That includes having some of the best facilities and equipment. We also need to explore ways in which public safety entities can better partner, consolidate and grow in the delivery of essential services. Public Safety, security in our homes and businesses, supports everything we do.

Infrastructure

Johnson County is one of the faster growing counties in the state, however, our infrastructure lags, and it seems to be getting worse every month. I can point to every corner of the county where we have failed to plan and deploy much-needed infrastructure as well as maintaining the streets, roads, and highways already constructed. In my opinion, we cannot continue along this path.

Intergovernmental Cooperation

We need to do a better job of having the county partner with our cities and towns, townships, school districts and other governmental entities. We are all in this together. Cooperation and mutual planning is essential. The same is true with our neighboring counties.

Quality of Life

Like public safety, our future rests on how we plan for the future. That includes making sure we have quality investment, both residential and business, that retains those who currently live here and attracts others.

Campaign Pledges

  • I will represent and advocate on behalf of the interests of Johnson County citizens to the best of my ability.
  • I will NOT accept any individual, company, corporate, organizational or PAC financial contributions.  I only ask for your vote, support and endorsement.
  • I will donate one-half of my commissioner’s salary to the nonprofit 501(c)3 charities serving Johnson County.  The other half of my salary will be used to participate in governmental organizations like AIC, IACC and AIM on behalf of and representing Johnson County.  I am a strong believer in a democratic, representative, citizen-led government.  Government officials should NOT be elected for and/or motivated by financial gain.

Below is my candidate profile. I urge you to review the qualifications of all candidates, make your own decision and then VOTE. Call or text me if you would like to discuss the commissioner race or any other matters of concern.
